ehind L’Uomo Montreal’s neoclassic quarry stone facade on Peel Street, there are two men who ooze good taste and elegance. “Elegance is when everything makes sense: the overall look and the details,” say Albert Cohen and Paul Teboul, who co-founded the store 37 years ago. These gentlemen believe in buying durable garments: “No one is rich enough not to invest in quality.” They suggest three criteria: cut, fabric and colour. The elegant duo believe in timeless fashion. In their store, tradition cohabits with innovation, style with reÞ nement: precise design, elite fabrics, perfect cuts, the art of expert tailoring.
Master advisers, Cohen and Teboul are as passionate about their work as they were when they Þ rst opened their style emporium. They chose to mark their 37th anniversary, not by showing off and putting forth their own success, but by turning the spotlight on the craftsmen who produce exceptional products by hand. Today, following in the footsteps of their fathers, young customers seek the emotion triggered by handmade products, the soulfulness of traditional craftsmanship.
For example, a Kiton jacket requires 33,000 stitches made by some 25 different tailors; a pair of John Lobb shoes goes through 190 steps to become a masterpiece. In store, you will discover other jewels bearing the signatures of Luigi Borrelli, Edward Green, Ermenegildo Zegna, Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta… To build a menswear wardrobe, nothing beats L’Uomo Montreal.
