“Luigi Borrelli” has made the history of Neapolitan tailoring. A story of people, passion and promise. It was 1928 when Anna , with more than twenty years experience in the art of packaging tailored garments ( in her aunt’s laboratory), inaugurated a small workshop reserved for a restricted number of connoisseurs. Much more than a shop, a place where passion met with excellence. A place where a needle and thread entwined, weaving, gave birth to the intrigue of unique items, the heart of a story that would soon be handed down from mother to son, like any good Italian tradition. An inheritance received by the son, Luigi Borrelli, who with true passion, in 1957 founded the House of Luigi Borrelli. The beginning of a story destined to capture throughout the world, with the charm of the quality and tailoring. In 1987 Fabio Borrelli, Luigi’s son, established the winning business formula. The Luigi Borrelli product took this identity and become a little “object d’art” for the wardrobe of sophisticated connoisseurs. The shirts are manufactured with materials of the highest quality, hand finished by master embroiderers according to age-old tailoring techniques. The third generation has the credit of taking the company into the future, looking for small secrets from the past to move ahead. From 1997 the company started a process of growth geared to brand extension. Tailored garments, outerwear, jeans, knitwear and accessories complete the offerings of the Luigi Borrelli brand, and from this moment became a total look collection. Products are designed with the same quality that have always satisfied the Luigi Borrelli clients. All products are handcrafted in Italy, making the Borrelli production the greatest expression of Neapolitan tailoring and excellence. Having a clear idea of the startup is the guarantee of a good outcome: to offer a shirt characterized by a perfect fit was and is the basic philosophy of Borrelli shirts. To obtain a perfect fit, we retrace the ancient hand steps that made famous the great Neapolitan tailors. The eight passages then, represent the moment when the human hand replaces the machines, and allow a shirt to take a very special fit, in all its parts: The armholes, the collar, the shoulder, the mouche ,the embroidery at the sleeve vent, the button hole, the button with the old hen’s foot, the box pleat. The perfection of the shirt, like the other products made by Borrelli, is also recognized by the selection of materials. Fine cottons, with refined colourings and patterns typical of the Borrelli style, which are contemporary and classic at the same time, realizing that “paradox” that is the DNA of the House.
COLLAR
Collar are hand-stitched by most expert embroiderers: this is the most idelicate part of the
whole shirt, the one imparting a pleasant caress brushing lightly against the skin.
BUTTON
To sew on buttons we have reintroduced the age-old « mosca a zampa di gallina » (hen-foot) stitch, one of the features of traditional Neapolitan tailoring. A uniquely beautiful stitch, which only the most expert hands can produce.
This is the embroidery at the sleeve vent. We wanted this to be hands-stitched by our embroiderers, because it is one of the little expedients that are typical of our garments, and that make then truly unique.
FOURTH SHOULDER
The adaptability of the shirt to the shoulder is another sensitive area we wanted to address by hand-stitching, therefore eliminating the tightness created by machine sewing, and ensuring complete softness and a perfect fit.
MOUCHE
The Mouche is that tiny, white, taffeta triangle connnecting the back of the shirt to the front. In our shirts, this part is sewn exclusived by hand, in order to ensure greater strength.
This is an area that can be too stiff in a machine-sewn shirt. Here, we have gone back to hand sewing, obtaining a truly exceptional soft result.
The button hole of a shirt should wear well in time, they should be both flexible and resistant. It is truly fascinanting to observe the weaving of the threads as they are embroidered by our skilled women..
PLACKET
The bottom part of the front placket is entirely hand stitched, giving a new elegance and allowing an easier ironing.

SHIRT
Eight hand-made steps that rapresenting the moment when the human hand replace the machine. The armhole, the neck, the yoke, la mouche, the joist, the buttonhole, the button with the typical “punto a zampa di gallina”, and the placket. All of this never forgetting the style, classic and modern at the same time. Borrelli stands out for its native ability to join the finest popeline with a denim or a jacquard, in the same wardrobe.
